About Us

Olá! I'm Sara, the smile, the spark, and the heart behind Cut the Mustard.

I've been teaching Portuguese for over 20 years, and one thing I've learned is that languages are best learned when people feel relaxed, curious and enjoy the process.

My journey has taken me from teaching in large international companies to working with students from all over the world online while living in Ireland. When I returned to Portugal in 2019, I decided to bring everything I'd learned together and created Cut the Mustard.

What started as a small online project has grown into a welcoming language school in the heart of Setúbal, with students joining us both in person and online from across the globe.

Our classes are practical, friendly and full of real Portuguese. We focus on helping you communicate with confidence through conversation, culture, laughter and plenty of encouragement—not endless grammar drills or intimidating classrooms.

Alongside our courses, we also organise workshops, cultural activities and community events because learning a language is about so much more than memorising vocabulary. It's about feeling at home in a new place, connecting with people and enjoying the journey.
